Food and groceries

Let me assure you that there is more than enough food to go around and our food supply chain is able to expand production to cope with increased demand. HM Government is working closely with industry to make sure that people have access to what they need. This includes relaxing competition rules to allow supermarkets to work together on their coronavirus response and keeping the supply chain moving.

A number of major supermarkets have now put in place dedicated shopping times for elderly people or for those who work for the NHS or in the social care sector. Locally, I am aware that the above is available. While you are permitted to leave your house to shop for basic necessities like food and medicine, you should go as infrequently as possible and only when you really need to.

If you have a medical condition that makes you extremely vulnerable to coronavirus, you can register for government support at: gov.uk/coronavirus-extremely-vulnerable

Even if you're not extremely vulnerable, if you have nobody to assist you and you're unable to shop online, please do register and we'll assign one of our local volunteers here.
