I’m delighted to report that Airkix, the indoor skydiving experience, has now opened to the public in Basingstoke – only the third in the country. This represents a £6million investment by the company in Basingstoke Leisure Park.
At the heart of the centre is a 14ft-wide wind tunnel for ‘skydiving’, but there are also two Skiplex ski slopes and Britain’s first permanent ‘brushboarding’ slope too.
The Mayor, Cllr Dan Putty, opened the centre with me and said, “The centre is getting our town on the map and it’s unique in the south of England.” He is right. It is putting Basingstoke on the map as a place to do business – and have fun. It is an excellent start to the revitalisation of Basingstoke Leisure Park, bringing it firmly into the 21st century.
Right next door is a brand new Costa Coffee, open to Airkix patrons and passers-by alike. Sounds pretty normal. What you may not have expected is that this coffee shop also has a ‘drive through’ facility – perfect for picking up a cup of coffee on the way to the office!
