The Home Secretary, the Rt Hon Theresa May MP, met Cllr Ranil Jayawardena and local police in Yateley today to discuss law and order issues in North East Hampshire.

A Waitrose and John Lewis for Basingstoke?

I am pleased to confirm that I have been working on proposals for a new, combined ‘Waitrose‘ supermarket and ‘John Lewis at Home’ store in Basingstoke. As Deputy Leader & Cabinet Member for Strategy, part of my role is to deliver key strategic projects like this on Basing View – but it is always important to take time to review proposals and decide whether it is in the best interests of residents, because it is proposed that council-owned land is used for the new s

Painting the town purple…

The Purple Flag initiative, similar to the Blue Flag for beaches and the Green Flag for Parks, aims to raise the standard and broaden the appeal of town and city centres in the evenings and at night. This represents a £6million investment by the company in Basingstoke Leisure Park. At the heart of the centre is a 14ft-wide wind tunnel for ‘skydiving’, but there are also two Skiplex ski slopes and Britain’s first permanent ‘brushboarding’ slope too.

£300,000 investment into Basingstoke Town Centre

Basingstoke is a successful and strong town, but we cannot take this success for granted. We need to deliver a dynamic programme to support the town centre and, in particular, the Top of the Town. That’s why your Conservative-run Council has included this as a key priority in the Council Plan.

No change in Council Tax for five years

The Council Plan is the document that sets out the council’s priorities and proposals over the next four years. Amongst other issues, it covers improving economic vitality, creating neighbourhoods where people feel safe, maintaining a reputation for quality arts and leisure, protecting our environment and developing better infrastructure.
