Bramley Footbridge

The pedestrian route across the level crossing at Bramley has long been dangerous at worst—and an annoyance at best—and it is time for a pedestrian footbridge to be constructed, like those at Mortimer and Hook.

Sadly, tragic accidents and fatalities have occurred over the years here and at other level crossings, so this is an issue I have been pressing Network Rail and our local councils on for several years. Indeed, I was keen to see this progressed when I was Borough Councillor for Bramley and Sherfield, prior to my election as your Member of Parliament in 2015.

To get these urgently-needed improvements back on track, this petition calls for Network Rail and local councils to come back to the table and make it happen and I would strongly urge you to sign it, then share it—with your neighbours, friends and family.

With the help and support of concerned constituents like you, I am confident that we can make Network Rail and our local councils understand that it is not only the Bramley residents and commuters of today that stand to benefit, but those future residents who choose to move in to the new developments that are being built in the village.

To the Honourable the Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Parliament assembled.

The Humble Petition of the people of North East Hampshire,

Sheweth,

That urgent action must be taken concerning the lack of continual safe pedestrian access between platforms and across the level crossing at Bramley; further that this has led to tragic accidents and fatalities, which must be prevented from future reoccurrence; and further that housing development for Bramley and beyond means that improvements will benefit many more people in the near future.

Wherefore your Petitioners pray that your Honourable House urges HM Government to take all possible steps to urge Network Rail, Hampshire County Council, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and Bramley Parish Council to secure and allocate funding for a pedestrian footbridge beside the level crossing at Bramley; further to provide any available funding towards wider improvements in Bramley; further to provide any necessary support and evidence to Network Rail to facilitate the scheme to go ahead; and further to urge Network Rail to set aside track time for access to the railway to enable the construction of said footbridge.

And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray, &c.
